REI Awards Stewardship Leader Grants of $600,000 to 14 Nonprofits

SEATTLE - REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), a national outdoor gear and clothing retailer, today announced the distribution of $600,000 to 14 nonprofit partners across the country through its Stewardship Leader Grants. REI selected one leading organization in each of its largest markets to provide larger grants for their volunteer programming, as well as local REI outreach team support.

Audubon and REI Foundation Expand Innovative Nature Education Program

The National Audubon Society and The REI Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI, are kicking off the second phase of an innovative collaboration launched last year. The initiative seeks to make hands-on nature experiences engaging and accessible for people of all backgrounds – including residents of underserved communities.  Renewed funding from The REI Foundation will enable Audubon to expand the reach of this program to four new cities.

REI Announces Green Energy Project Grant

REI Adventures, a leader in worldwide guided active adventure programs, announced that a grant of $87,000 has been awarded to Nepal SEEDS, a nonprofit organization focused on improving social, educational and environmental development. The grant, made possible through REI’s partnership with Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), will help fund biogas projects to improve the lives of residents of small villages and communities near where REI Adventures’ Royal Trek trip operates in Nepal.

NatureBridge Awarded REI Foundation's Inaugural Mary Anderson Legacy Grant

The REI Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI, awarded its first $50,000 Mary Anderson Legacy Grant to NatureBridge, the largest residential environmental education partner of the National Park Service. Established in recognition of REI co-founder Mary Anderson, the grant will assist NatureBridge's efforts to introduce more children to the natural world.
